Crumb Fried Chicken Steaks

Crumb Fried Chicken Steaks

Crumb Fried Chicken Steaks are great for an evening meal. The breast portion of boneless chicken is used for this preparation and hence it is also a good preparation for weight watchers. Lightly seasoned with Italian herbs and pan fried – it uses less oil. Serve with some vegetables or mashed potatoes and make it a complete meal. You can also stuff it into pao with lettuce, a slice of tomato, some ketchup or some mustard sauce.

Serves: A family of 4

Prep. Time: 15 mins + marination

Cooking Time: 5 to 6 minutes per batch

[ Standard Measure: 1 cup = 250 ml ]

  • Chicken (breast/boneless) – 450 gms
  • Oregano / Mixed Italian Herbs – 1 ½ tsp.
  • Chilly Flakes – 1 tsp.
  • Garlic (crushed) – 4 cloves (big)
  • Lime – 1 ½ medium or 1 big
  • Egg White (beaten) – 1
  • Breadcrumbs – ½ cup
  • Oil – 4 tbsp
  • Salt – ¾ tsp. or to taste

Step 1:     Slice the chicken breast into steaks. Then use a meat mallet and flatten lightly (be careful not to tear the meat).

Step 2:     Season with salt, lime juice, garlic, oregano and the red chilly flakes. Leave aside for 30 to 60 minutes.

Step 3:     Later, add the beaten egg to the chicken and mix. Coat each steak with the breadcrumbs and place on a plate. Keep in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes.

Step 4:     Heat 2 tbsp. oil in a pan on medium heat. Then switch to medium low heat and cook ½ the steaks until golden brown for 2 minutes on each side. Then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Do the same for the remaining steaks.
